To enhance the décor of an area the torches are available in a wide range of styles, sizes and shapes. The range varies from traditional tiki models, shapes like pineapples and totem poles to the nickel or copper varieties. Some are artistic varieties like Maui style that are shaped similar to a bowl, while those who like sophisticated and modern look can go for the black powder coated style. Patios and decks can be adorned with tabletop models. For placing the torch under an umbrella there are umbrella torches.
Among the popular varieties there are big butane lighters. It is available in different fun variations. To avoid the lights being extinguished most of the torches are windproof making it safe and easier to use. For the purpose of safety use of special torch lighter is advised. Using this, the torches can be lighted up from a safe distance avoiding the user's contact with the flame.
Different types of fuels like oil, liquid propane or natural gas are used to light up the torches. While the gas varieties burn in a clean way, over time some buildup of carbon can be noticed. But it can be easily removed by using a mild soap and water solution. For the torches using oil, paraffin or citronella oil can be used. There is no smoke or odor when paraffin oil is used. It is safe to be used outdoors or indoors. When scented citronella oil is used, it helps in repelling the insects. But it can be used outdoors only. While any of the oil can be used in the oil based torches, it is advised that the user should stick with one type of oil once it has been used in an oil torch until the wick is replaced.
The smaller varieties like tabletop models will burn for about six hours, and the larger torches will keep burning for almost 16 hours. To avoid getting burned use of a torch lighter is advised. This also eliminates the problem of dropping matchsticks inside the device. The best thing about the torches are that these can withstand about 10 miles an hour wind speed and even during light rain these will stay lit. Compared to ordinary lights, torches are easier to maintain.
